The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is an important part of our culture and we are committed to provide reasonable accommodations when needed without causing undue hardship to the New Mexico Judicial Branch

Does the ADA apply to the courts?

Yes. Title II of the ADA prohibits discrimination against qualified individuals with disabilities in all programs, activities and services of public entities, including courts. The ADA applies to all state and local governments, their departments and agencies, and any other instrumentalities or special purpose districts of state or local governments.

What courts are covered by the ADA?

All state, county and municipal courts are covered by the ADA. In the State of New Mexico, this includes the State Supreme Court, Court of Appeals, District Courts, Magistrate Courts, Municipal Courts and Probate courts.

Requesting a Reasonable Accommodation:

If you require an accommodation under the Americans with Disabilities Act for a program or service please make your request in advance to the court allowing them time to make arrangements for the accommodation.  All request for accommodation, regardless of timeliness, will be given due consideration.  

If you are an employee please contact your court’s Human Resources Professional or ADA Coordinator or you may speak to AOC HRD.
